Jobs at Excellent: Chief Executive Officer
Excellent Development has an ambitious strategy to grow its impact and is seeking an outstanding Chief Executive with the strong leadership, influence, vision and passion to take this award-winning charity forward.
Excellent Development supports some of the world’s poorest people in Africa and India, by helping them transform their own lives through soil and water conservation in drylands.
We work with local partners to support rural communities to build sand dams, as well as other forms of water conservation, which provide clean water for life and the opportunity to develop their livelihoods. Sand dams free communities, putting their future firmly in their own hands. We believe that they will enable millions of the world’s poorest people to transform their own lives.

You will have the personal presence, impact and credibility to champion Excellent Development’s aims and philosophy in a wide range of scenarios. You will use your excellent influencing and advocacy skills working with our partners, national and international organisations, including governments and policy makers, NGOs, and funding agencies, persuading them to integrate sand dams as part of their water conservation strategies. You will also have significant experience of overseas development, partnership working, building networks and maintaining key relationships.
We are pioneers in the application of sand dam technology and aim to be the acknowledged source of expertise in this area. You should understand the importance of a strong evidence base and know how to put research programmes in place.
You will have considerable experience of driving strategic direction and the business acumen and operational skills to deliver results. As a senior leader, you will be confident and skilled in engaging and working with the board and senior management team.
To be successful you will need to demonstrate an understanding of building funding streams and income generation strategies as well as sound organisation management including governance and risk.
You will be able to demonstrate your ability to motivate and engage your team as well as championing Excellent Development’s philosophy and values.
